Sports

GDGPSJ believes in holistic development of every child. It is a firm conviction of GDGPSJ, that physical activity through sports and games is an essential ingredient for the personality development of every student. We believe that academics and sports are compatible and complimentary in realizing the child's full potential. Winston Churchill is famously known to have said, "The battle of Waterloo was won on the playfields of Eaton and Harrow!" Activity on Playfield develops the qualities of team work, leadership, dedication, discipline, self- confidence and self - esteem. These qualities get ingrained in the psyche and enable each student to overcome the trials and tribulations of life. Sports equip students to face challenges of an increasingly competitive world.

We offer a very wide range of sports and games, so that every student can find at least one in which she/he can excel. These can be broadly clubbed into four categories:
1. Extreme Physical - Athletics, Basketball, Football, Martial arts, Horse Riding and Swimming
2. Physical and Skills - Badminton, Cricket, Horse riding, Lawn tennis .
3. Greater Skill - Golf and Table tennis.
4. Mental - Chess

Our sports facilities are built to provide a wide choice of sports and games. The sports faculty, comprising highly qualified and experienced instructors endeavor to develop the finest sportspersons and teams who can win laurels for the school and the region. Regular campus visits by eminent sports personalities for interactive sessions are planned with a view to motivate students through interaction with their role models. We enjoy a tradition of excellence and our students have made a mark at State level and National Level in Athletics and Martial arts.

TABLE TENNIS

Tennis offers students the chance to learn valuable life skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Over the years our students have been reaching higher levels of achievement and the participation has shown a steady increase. GDGPSJ caters to their needs by providing the necessary infrastructure to enable more participation from all quarters.

SWIMMING POOL:

Swimming is a popular leisure activity for most of the world and also a major competition sport in many countries. We have one centrally heated swimming pool. Each student is allotted ninety minutes of training per week. Qualified staff imparts training to the students and maintain operational facilities.

AEROBICS

Aerobics is a formof physical exercise thatcombines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, and cardio-vascular fitness). It is usually performed to music and may be practiced in a group setting led by an instructor

BASKETBALL COURT

Basketball is a team sport, involving techniques of shooting, passing and dribbing. At GDGPSJ basketball is the hot favourite of students where they learn the skills and techniques of the game under the expert coaches and develop amongst them the spirit of sportsmanship.

FOOTBALL FIELD

GDGPSJ has a large football ground. The students learn the skills of football under the guidance of well qualified coaches. Besides regular coaching, we also organize Coaching Camps every year where renowned coaches come and give the useful tips to students.

KARATE

"The martial arts are ultimately self-knowledge. A punch or a kick is not to knock the hell out of the guy in front, but to knock the hell out of your ego, your fear, or your hang-ups."– Bruce Lee

If you are looking for a productive and healthy activity for your young ones, karate for children is an excellent pursuit (or other martial arts, for that matter). Introducing children to the martial arts gives them a lifelong activity that grows with them, and delivers a satisfying outlet for their energy.

Karate and other martial arts, besides delivering sound physical exercise, teaches self-confidence and respect – respect for others and for oneself. In children, these are exceptionally important life skills, especially for those who do not mature physically as fast as others. The self-confidence that comes from knowing how to do something, and how to protect oneself, reduces fear and improves self-esteem. This translates into good grades and leadership in school.
Students of GDGPSJ are doing exceedingly well under the guidance of a skillful trainer.

SKATING

Roller Skating helps develop motor skills through different games, while providing the children with the opportunity for social interaction. Lack of exercise is often a problem with today's children. Roller Skating can help solve that! It is a fun way for them to work almost every major muscle group in their bodies. Skating develops muscles in the entire upper leg, rear end and hip, as well as the lower back. Muscles in the upper arms and shoulders are also developed when arms are swung while skating.

BADMINTON COURT

Badminton is a fast paced sport which requires not only agility, power, but also high mental endurance. That is why we at GDGPSJ have always been persistent in terms of perfecting our skills, improving our agility as well as pushing our own boundaries during our trainingsessions, which are held twice a week, in order to bring the team to even greater heights. Our vision is to instill character building through positive competition and to achieve excellence in competitions. We have an expert coach to train them in the techniques & the rules and regulations of the game.

VOLLEY BALL

Volleyball is a team sport that requires great skill and can be very rewarding when played properly. Certainly considered to be both a competitive and leisurely activity, Volleyball places a large number of demands on the technical and physical skills of a player. During the course of play, players are required to serve, pass, set, attack, block and dig the ball. Playing volleyball requires flexibility, good balance, upper and lower body strength and speed in order to be played effectively.
